Where National History Museum in Sofia, Bulgaria

We are pleased to announce that, the exhibition Through the Prism of Borders – Episode 2: Artistic Journeys In-Between Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey, will be hosted at the National History Museum in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 8 April to 29 August 2025.

Four newly commissioned site-specific artworks by Esra Ersen, Boris Missirkov & Georgi Bogdanov, Ivan Moudov and ZimmerFrei (Anne de Manincor) will be on stage, engaging with remnants of the past, local border symbolism and the stories of those who live and who pass through these borderlands.

The exhibition, curated by Katia Anguelova, Angelika Burtscher and Marion Oberhofer and produced by Lungomare, as part of the B-Shapes Horizon Europe project, explores the multiple perceptions of borders, engaging with political, spatial and personal narratives of the southeasternmost border of Europe. Through newly commissioned site-specific works, artists examine themes of migration, history and identity. The exhibition fosters a deeper understanding of borderlands as spaces of connection rather than division, prompting reflection on historical omissions, collective memory and shaping contemporary dialogue on national and transnational identities. It presents borders as porous, ever-shifting zones of tension and transformation.

For the first time, the National History Museum in Sofia hosts contemporary artworks that challenge official narratives and reframe historiographical perspectives.
