Narrative framework and spatial experience design for NOI Techpark’s permanent public tour
How can a research and innovation ecosystem become accessible to a broad public? Developed for NOI Techpark in Bolzano, the Public Tours project transforms a guided visit into an immersive and participatory experience, making the complexity of research tangible through spatial design, storytelling, and interaction.
Lungomare led the project from concept to implementation, developing the narrative framework, spatial experience, exhibition design, content structure, graphic language, and coordination of the overall process in collaboration with interaction designers, developers, architects, and the NOI team. The result is a permanent public tour that combines physical installations and digital interfaces to reveal the people, projects, and infrastructures that shape the innovation district.
The experience unfolds across five thematic stations distributed throughout the campus. Interactive displays, tactile objects, prototypes, and multimedia installations invite visitors to explore topics such as research, experimentation, prototyping, entrepreneurship, and collaboration. Rather than presenting innovation as a collection of facts, the project creates an emotional and accessible journey that encourages curiosity and dialogue.
The visual and spatial concept is built around the metaphor of light—as a tool for orientation, discovery, and shared knowledge—guiding visitors through the many scales of the NOI ecosystem, from individual ideas to wider research networks. A flexible content system supports the experience, allowing stories, projects, and scientific developments to evolve over time while keeping the tour continuously up to date.
The Public Tours project establishes a new interface between NOI Techpark and its visitors, transforming the act of visiting into an opportunity to build lasting relationships between research, innovation, and society.
