ONDA. A More-than-Human Radio and Listening Network by Lia Mazzari has been selected as the project for the second SIT-PLU residency at Lungomare, as part of Riverscapes and their Ecological Interconnections.
Selected from over 150 applications received from around the world, ONDA will explore Bolzano’s river environments through listening, live audio transmission, and radio production. At the heart of the project will be a temporary radio kiosk: a space for listening, broadcasting, and gathering, where connections between different river sites can emerge and new ways of tuning into their soundscapes in real time can be explored.
The residency will also unfold through a process of dialogue with artists, researchers, and local communities, opening up new possibilities for experiencing the rivers and exploring relationships between human and more-than-human environments.

About the artist
Lia Mazzari (b. Merano, Italy) is an artist and researcher based in Bristol, UK. Her practice explores listening as a way of encountering environments across distances and in real time. Working with live audio transmission, radio, installation, film, performance and composition, she creates situations in which human and more-than-human environments can be experienced as they unfold. Her recent work uses open-source transmission technologies to establish live listening networks across rivers, glaciers and other shifting landscapes, exploring how sound can make different temporalities, ecological processes and forms of connection perceptible. Her wider practice spans cryospheric sound transmissions, activist radio labs, experimental cello concerts and whip cracking performances. Winner of an Oram Award in 2022, Lia has presented work internationally across art, music and research contexts. She is currently an AHRC/Techne-funded PhD researcher at the Centre for GeoHumanities, Royal Holloway, University of London.
