Brera in Humanitas
Art becomes cure
Brera in Humanitas is a project part of the initiative “La Cura e la Bellezza”, which is a unique experiment aiming to enhance the beauty of art, its emotional and communicative capacity, and the empathy it kindles. Art is brought into the hospital space, where it enriches the time spent there, by wating patients as well as busy daily work life of the working professionals. The intent of the project is also to give an unprecedented perspective on the paintings which are rendered in a format that maximizes details and brushstrokes, wholly changing the experience that is known from the museum.
The first project of “La Cura e la Bellezza” took shape through the La Carrara in Humanitas project, born in Bergamo in 2018 from the fruitful collaboration between Humanitas Gavazzeni and Castelli hospitals and the Accademia di Carrara of Bergamo.
For Brera in Humanitas, the collaboration involved the Pinacoteca di Brera and IRCCS Istituto Clinico Humanitas in Rozzano bringing 23 details from 15 masterpieces from the museum institution to the hospital’s waiting rooms and corridors.
Through the enlarged maxi-format masterpieces by Bernardo Bellotto, Paris Bordon, Vincenzo Campi, Carlo Crivelli, Piero della Francesca, Filippo De Pisis, Francesco Hayez, Il Francia, Silvestro Lega, Lorenzo Lotto, Giulio Cesare Procaccini, Raphael and Simon Vouet, the experience within the hospital walls finds a new dimension: beauty and the sharing of emotions become a support for those who enter and their experience of care.
Lungomare was responsible for the curation and art direction of the project, visual identity, graphic design and content of the exhibition as well as the development of the website.
