Janfamily – Plans for other days
Janfamily explore the things that surround them, and together they create alternatives to everyday routines. “Janfamily – Plans for other days”, their third publication, is a manifesto of their philosophy: it is a ‘how to’ book, a list of proposals on how to relate to our everyday life. By offering solutions to problems such as ‘How to grow attached’ and ‘How to outlive danger on safe ground’, we are invited to revisit the simple things in life that are often ignored or unnoticed. “Janfamily – Plans for other days” is a humorous yet touching presentation of an alternative way of looking at the world.
The publication date coincides with a series of workshops and exhibitions in Copenhagen, London, Paris, Bolzano, Venedig, New York, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Sydney, Prag, Bratislava, Ljubljana organized by the Janfamily in the Autumn / Winter 2005 / 2006. This will be in exhibition places such as M+R in London, Palais du Tokyo in Paris and Sundown Saloon in Los Angeles. The main concept behind these events is to invite people to perform new situations inspired by the philosophy represented in the book.

Workshop “How to make someone grow with you” with Martino Jan Gamper (UK)
Martino Gamper, born in Meran / living and working in London, is a temporary member of Janfamily. At his opening night in Bolzano he will be making a chair, which will not be used as a one-man chair, but as a chair to “share”. A chair that creates plurality rather than singularity. A chair that brings people closer together.

Workshop on bread baking “How to get to know someone” by Alexandre Jan Bettler (UK)
Alexandre Bettler has been touring various European galleries for some time, baking different types of breads at each place. He lets himself be inspired by regional recipes and traditions, developing his own recipe for each location. At the opening of the exhibition with Janfamily at Lungomare, Alexandre Bettler will be baking “Pretzels” with his guests, inviting them to shape and then sample the pretzels together with him.

E.Stonji und Hans Platzgumer aka hp.stonji haben sich in vergangenen Jahren als Innovatoren elektronischer Musik und multimedialer Arbeiten mit zahlreichen Auftritten auf internationalen Festivals und ihren Veröffentlichungen ‘Metic’ und ‘Mélaina Cholé’ einen Stammplatz auf höchstem Niveau kontemporärer Electronica gesichert. Auf ihren virtuell vernetzten Powerbooks produzieren sie artifizielle Musik, die immer wieder neu die Grenzen digitaler Klangforschung auslotet ohne dabei jemals den Bezug zu popmusikalischen Grundwerten außer Acht zu lassen. Ihre in England erschienene, von der Kritik hochgelobte Musik „spricht“ anstatt nur „Gesprochenes“ zu sein.
hp.stonji machen dabei das Ping-Pong-Spiel digitaler Binär-Codes ebenso transparent wie sie sich – ausgehend von (noch) identifizierbaren Piano/Klavier-Klängen & Sounds – dem nicht Codierbaren, nicht Darstellbaren, dem an den (digitalen) Rändern und vermeintlichen (Daten-)Abfällen schlummernden Potentialen und Intensitäten nähern.

EXHIBITION :: Binta Diaw :: Collective Practices – A Living Experience of Feeling ListenedAbout Lungomare
Lungomare, a cultural association founded in Bolzano in 2003, was created from the desire and necessity to open a space in which to share differences, experiences, opinions and desires, a space in which to make the link between cultural production and the political and social dimension. Lungomare undertakes projects that investigate and test possible relationships between design, architecture, urban planning, art and theory, the results of which are presented in different formats: public discussions, conferences, publications, exhibitions and interventions in public spaces. All these formats are characterised by the intention to interact with cultural and socio-political processes relating to the region in which Lungomare is located.
Currently Lungomare’s activities focus on long-term residency projects, a format whereby Lungomare invites guests to engage and interact within the context of South Tyrol. Lungomare’s activities are based on three principles: specific attention to the context in which the association’s projects are undertaken, the transdisciplinary approach that distinguishes these projects, and reflection on the role of Lungomare as a cultural institution in connection with the region in which it operates.
Territory
Lungomare is located at the edge of Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, and relates to the context in which it operates, attempting to highlight the dynamics of change. Large urbanized areas alternate with broad areas of intensive cultivation and yet others of picturesque landscape, all of which penetrate the centre of the city. The city is surrounded by mountains and this is one of the reasons why the tourism industry has become a driving force in this locality. The demographic structure of the city has been characterized for a long time by the coexistence of two populations, those speaking German and those speaking Italian. However, the social and demographic composition of Alto Adige Südtirol is changing. Migrants, including those from non-European countries are making their way to the area to settle, whilst others, including political refugees, are flowing through the region.
